E Khasi Hills admin tells pharmacies to install CCTV cameras
Shillong: In the wake of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) having prepared and released a joint action plan on ‘Prevention of Drugs and Substance Abuse among Children and Illicit Trafficking’, the East Khasi Hills district administration has asked all medical stores and pharmacies to install CCTV cameras within their premises.

An order issued by the East Khasi Hills district magistrate RM Kurbah said that it is imperative to issue necessary direction to the medical shops, selling scheduled H, H1 and X drugs, for monitoring their sale.
“All the medical/pharmacy shops of East Khasi Hills district, selling schedule ‘H’, ‘HI’ and ‘X’, under relevant provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, are hereby directed to install CCTV camera inside their shops,” the order, issued on November 17, was released in the media on Tuesday.
“Time period of two weeks is provided to all the medical/pharmacy shop owners for installation of CCTV camera footage and such cameras can be randomly checked by the competent authorities of East Khasi Hills district at any time,” the order stated.
“In case any medical/pharmacy shop owner fails to comply with these directions, appropriate action will be taken against him/her,” the order asserted.

The system will accommodate 202 cars and is expected to be completed within six months. SCTL has also issued a retender for another multilevel car parking project at Putharikandam, with a contract value of approximately Rs 20 crore.
CCTV footage reveals 77-yr-old died following assault
The death of a retired laboratory assistant from Bowring hospital, initially thought to be a fatal fall, has now been revealed as a murder based on CCTV footage. The footage shows a motorcycle-borne individual intercepting the victim in front of a bank and initiating a confrontation that escalated into a violent assault. Another person joined the assailant, and together they assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene. Police suspect road rage and have formed a special team to apprehend the assailants.
