Drugs, liquor, cash seized in Meghalaya

Shillong: The chief electoral officer of Meghalaya, BDR Tiwari, has said as part of implementing the model code of conduct for the coming elections, various seizures in the form of cash, drugs, alcohol and other freebies were made across the state.
The seizures made during the period from March 16 to March 31 included Rs 18.92008 in cash, 16206.69 litres of liquor worth Rs 28.94127, 123936.91 grams of drugs worth Rs 139.0892, besides 1083 freebies.
Total seizures till March 31, 2024 was valued at Rs 388.1566 lakh.
Tiwari held a meeting with the members of various political parties and representatives from Doordarshan, Akashvani, Shillong and DIPR regarding the time vouchers for broadcasting and telecasting talks on media channels about the coming Lok Sabha elections.
“The CEO requested the political parties for needful coordination with AIR/DDK to plan for the draw regarding broadcast time and slots allocation at the earliest,” an official statement said.
