Shillong: The embalmed mortal remains of young and promising table tennis player from Tamil Nadu, Deenadayalan Vishwa, who died of his injuries after the taxi that he was travelling in from Guwahati to Shillong was hit by a truck on Sunday, was handed over to his father on Monday and flown to Chennai.
The 18-year-old national-level TT player was scheduled to participate in the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis championships, which began on the SAI Campus, Nehu, here on Monday with the observance of a minute’s silence in his memory.

The driver of the tourist vehicle, Dipal Das, also died in the accident that occurred around 2pm on Sunday at Shangbangla under Nongpoh police station in Ri-Bhoi district.
Vishwa was travelling with three other players from his state when the accident occurred. The tourist vehicle was hit by a clinker-laden truck which veered off the road after colliding with the car and fell into a gorge at a depth of about 50 metres from the highway, police said, adding that an investigation was under way.
