Shillong: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said strict action would be taken against those involved in the public assault of woman in the Garo Hills recently.
“We condemn all these kinds of activities and strict action will be taken the individuals responsible for this,” the CM said.
Six persons have so far been arrested in connection with the case.
The accused, who police said were “close relatives” of the victim, were nabbed after a video of the assault had gone viral. According to the police, the accused alleged that the woman was allegedly having an extra-marital affair.
The victim was taken for a medical check-up and her condition was stated to be stable.
The incident has sparked outrage in the state which has a matrilineal society.
