Conrad spells out steps to decongest, beautify Shillong

Shillong: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said the government has conceptualised different interventions to decongest and beautify Shillong.“Shillong is a historic city, which was the capital of the eastern region before Independence and of undivided Assam. We have not seen the kind of growth that Shillong deserves. Urbanisation and increase of population have led to a lot of challenges, when it comes to facilities and amenities. With these in mind, we have come up with various interventions to decongest and beautify Shillong,” he said after laying the foundation for Wah Umkhrah Riverfront Development Project at Polo in the city.The project envisages redevelopment of the Wah Umkhrah riverfront into a central hub for recreational, cultural, and social activities, with a cost of Rs 39 crore. It not only aims to restore the ecological balance of the river, but also create a harmonious blend of modern amenities.Stating that mere beautification of the riverfront is meaningless, the CM said, “Developing the riverfront and maintaining the river are two different aspects. We are working with the Union ministry of jal shakti to clean up Wah Umkhrah and Umshyrpi rivers”.

Development rights of riverfront plots up for grabs at lower cost

The Sabarmati Riverfront Land Disposal Policy 2024 includes a revision of value zones and the duration of leases. The city's land market has seen a decrease in the cost of land along the riverfront. Short-term leases for development rights may extend between 15 to 35 years.

Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar get metro extension, riverfront expansion

The budget for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar focuses on an extended riverfront, a metro extension to the airport, Olympic-class sports infrastructure, and a manufacturing hub for the space sector. It also includes grants for medical equipment and the construction of new hospitals.

99-year Riverfront leases to cost 10/sq m a year

The SRDCL will soon initiate the sale of the development rights of the plots in various value zones of the Sabarmati Riverfront. The lease price for the land will be fixed at Rs 10 per sq m annually after the development rights sale.
