Spectacles worth ₹50L seized on India-Bangladesh border

Shillong: The BSF, which has been regularly seizing items meant for smuggling to Bangladesh along the international border that Meghalaya shares with the neighbouring country, on Thursday seized spectacles worth Rs 50 lakh.“On December 14, acting on a specific tip-off, the dedicated troops of 193 Battalion BSF, Meghalaya, executed a special operation in the bordering area of East Khasi Hills district and seized huge quantities of spectacles worth more than Rs 50 lakh. These spectacles were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh,” a statement issued by the Meghalaya frontier of the BSF said on Friday.“During the operation, the BSF troops observed an overloaded vehicle discreetly parked in a narrow lane/track leading towards the international border. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be loaded with suspected smuggling items, specifically spectacles. The driver and co-driver of the vehicle were apprehended as they failed to provide satisfactory answers and were unable to produce any valid documents regarding the consignment of spectacles,” the BSF release read.Both the apprehended individuals and the seized items were handed over to the Dangar police station for further legal action, the BSF said. “This successful operation underscores the BSF’s commitment to curbing illegal activities along the International border,” the release stated.

A dance spectacle in Delhi

Dancer-choreographer Geeta Chandran performed 'SAMAGATI' at the Chinmaya Mission Auditorium in Delhi. The performance showcased choreographies by the NATYA VRIKSHA DANCE COLLECTIVE. BSF special DG inspects security

The Border Security Force (BSF) western command special DG Yogesh Bahadur Khurania inspected security activities in Tanot, Longewala, and Shahgarh areas in Jaisalmer district. He reviewed the operational situation and will also conduct a bi-annual inspection at BSF Frontier headquarters in Jodhpur. Khurania addressed a soldier meet, praising their efforts.

2000 qtls of paddy worth 40L seized from border in Rewa

Around 2000 quintals of paddy worth more than Rs 40 lakh has been seized at check posts set up by the district administration. The paddy was being brought to Rewa for procurement from outside the state. The government is currently procuring paddy in Madhya Pradesh at a higher price compared to neighbouring states. The accused were trying to sell the paddy at procurement centers through unfair means. Investigations are being conducted to determine the validity of the paddy brought in without proper documents.
