BSF foils sugar smuggling bid in Meghalaya

Shillong: Troops of the 172 Battalion BSF Meghalaya on Tuesday intercepted a vehicle loaded with a huge quantity of sugar meant for smuggling into Bangladesh.
They also apprehended two Indian nationals near Kuliang border area under East Jaintia Hills, BSF officials said on Wednesday.
“Based on specific information, BSF troops identified and intercepted a vehicle loaded with 13,000 kgs of sugar. The vehicle was coming from Kalain under the Cachar district of Assam and heading towards Kuliang border area. Upon questioning, the driver and co-driver failed to produce any valid documents pertaining to the consignment of sugar,” a spokesperson at the BSF Meghalaya Frontier Headquarters in Shillong said on Wednesday.
