1 arrested for murder of 4 in East Jaintia Hills district

Shillong: One person has been arrested in connection with the murder of four persons whose bodies were found in Umpleng, East Jaintia Hills on July 6.Police on Thursday said a case was registered vide Khliehriat police station case no. 49(07)2024 u/s 103/3(5) BNS, and during the course of investigation, one person was arrested. “The details of the arrested person are not being disclosed in the interest of investigation,” SP (East Jaintia Hills district) Giri Prasad said in a statement. Investigation is on to trace and arrest the other persons involved in the case, he added.An SIT had been set up to assist in the investigation of the murder of the four persons. Their bodies bearing multiple injury marks were found behind the village market. Their hands were tied with ropes. One of the bodies was identified as that of Ravi Rai (23) from Ilam district of Nepal while a second body was identified as that of Nasar Kyndait (33) of Dkhiah East, Pohshnong in East Jaintia Hills. The SP said the SIT had been formed in view of the seriousness of the case and to assist the investigating officer. Meghalaya Police is also probing if the murders were related to drugs.
