Woman, daughter die by suicide near Salem

SALEM: A 57-year-old woman and her 38-year-old daughter died by suicide near Attur in Salem district on Thursday due to debts.The deceased have been identified as S Lakshmi of Vinayagapuram and her daughter Deepa Veni, who was unmarried.Lakshmi and Veni were found dead at their home on Thursday morning. The Attur police retrieved the bodies and sent them for postmortem."Lakshmi separated from her husband 15 years ago. She had six daughters and one son. Her son and five daughters were married while Deepa Veni was unmarried. She took a loan from an acquaintance to get her five daughters married off. She struggled to repay the loan and was in distress," said an officer at Attur police station.A case was registered, and further inquiries were on.
