Tractor mows down woman, daughter

Namakkal: A woman and her daughter died in an accident after a tractor ran over them near Pallipalayam in Namakkal district on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as R Thavamani, 55, of Chinnarpalayam, and her daughter Indhumathi, 27, who was working in a software company in Chennai.
The accident took place around 9.30pm when the mother-daughter duo was returning from their relative’s house in Erayamangalam on a two-wheeler. Indhumathi was riding the bike while Thavamani was riding pillion. They came under the tractor’s wheels after Indhumathi lost control of the bike when attempting to overtake the tractor, near Kokkarayanpettai. A vehicle suddenly came in the opposite direction just when Indhumathi overtook the sugarcane-laden tractor. Indhumathi who did not expect the vehicle, lost control and hit the tractor. They fell under the tractor’s trailer and the vehicle ran over them, a constable said, adding that both succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
The Pallipalayam police sent the bodies to the government hospital for postmortem.
