Stalin to hold 11km road show before releasing water from Mettur dam on Thursday
SALEM: Chief minister M K Stalin will release water from Stanley reservoir in Mettur on Thursday for irrigation of crops in the delta districts.
Stalin will be on a two-day visit to Salem and Erode starting Wednesday. He will attend an agriculture exhibition at Vijayamangalam near Perundurai in Erode district on Wednesday. After that, he will reach Salem by evening.
Tourism minister R Rajendran said the chief minister would hold an 11km road show from Bhavani Perumpallam to Mettur on Thursday before opening the sluice gates of the Stanley reservoir.
Extensive police security has been arranged for this road show. The Salem district administration has deployed 3,000 police personnel from the districts of Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri for security. The police have implemented security measures to ensure that the public can comfortably gather along the roads during the chief minister's road show to greet him, an officer said.
After releasing water from Mettur dam, the CM will participate in an event on the Salem Government Medical College campus where he will distribute welfare initiatives worth Rs 1,500 crore to 1.01 lakh beneficiaries.
