SSI placed under suspension in Salem

SALEM: Salem city commissioner of police Praveen Kumar Abhinapu on Saturday suspended a special sub-inspector (SSI) for allegedly taking a bribe.The suspended SSI has been identified as G Saravanan, who was working at the deputy commissioner's office in Annathanapatty.N Murali, 45, of Hasthampatty, who is a moneylender, filed a petition in the Salem criminal judicial court II stating that V Tamilagan, Prema and T Vigneswar took a loan from him in 2022 mortgaging a land deed. However, they had failed to repay the loan, he stated. He requested the court to instruct the Salem city police to file an FIR against the three, which the court subsequently ordered.When Murali attempted to submit a complaint at the Salem city police commissioner's office, the SSI approached him, claiming to be the officer handling the investigation into this petition. "He allegedly accepted Rs 6 lakh from the trio and failed to take the necessary action," stated the commissioner. Murali later reported this matter to the commissioner, leading to Saravanan's suspension on Saturday. The commissioner ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.
