Salem railway division to transport relief material free of cost
Salem: Following Indian Railways announcement, the Salem Railway Division has announced that it would transport relief materials to Cyclone Gaja-affected areas free of cost in goods and passenger trains.
“We have decided to permit inter-state and intra-state free transport of aid and relief material by passenger and goods trains, including in less than standard composition rakes, to Gaja-affected districts,” divisional railway manager (DRM) of Salem division U Subba Rao said.
All government organizations across the country can relief material free of cost to affected districts of Tamil Nadu. “However, it may be ensured that the consignee is the district magistrate or deputy commissioner in whose jurisdiction the dispatching/ receiving station is situated,” he said.
The divisions have been empowered to take decisions on further necessary action including attaching additional bogies or coaches or vans to various Tamil Nadu bound trains till December 10, 2018 or till further orders whichever is earlier. tnn
