Salem: The party that people vote to power in Tamil Nadu should introduce Lok Ayuktha to probe both old and existing crime cases, said CPI state secretary D Pandian on Friday. Talking to reporters here, he pointed out that all political parties have assured total prohibition in the state. "I, however, request the party that comes to power to implement total prohibition at the earliest," Pandian said.
Taking a dig at political parties that have promised to eradicate corruption from the state, the CPI leader said, "The state government cannot do this alone, as most policies, especially money-related ones, are taken by Central government."
Pointing out that the RBI governor Raguram Rajan has cautioned about flow of illegal money (to the tune of 60,000 crore into five states that go to assembly poll.
"The Central government, however, hasn't taken action to check this illegal flow of money," he said.
Pandian claimed that Central government was responsible for soaring petrol and diesel prices and blamed it for hiking the excise duty. "Jayalalithaa has been condemning the petrol and diesel price hike. But, why haven't AIADMK MPs raised the issue in Parliament," he questioned.
Pandian said the PWF, of which his party is an ally, would provide an alternate to DMK and AIADMK in the state. "Our alliance will win the poll," he said. He also welcomed freebies announced by AIADMK but said the benefits should reach poor people.
Taking a jibe at Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), which in its election manifesto announced to provide government jobs to five lakh people, Pandian said, "There are only 60,000 government jobs are vacant and how would PMK fulfil its promise? He wants to fix a government employee's salary at Rs25,000 and the total salary of five lakh employees would exceed the amount quoted in the state budget."
Pandian assured that his party alliance will take steps to find solution for water scarcity. CPI functionaries, including Veerapandi candidate A Mohan, were present at the press meet.
