KRISHNAGIRI: A 39-year-old man murdered his wife by slitting her throat near Veppanahalli here in the early hours of Monday over a family dispute.
Police identified the deceased as N Priya, 35, of Gangojikothur village. She was a homemaker.
An investigation officer said Priya was a native of Chennai and that she had been married to V Natarajan, a car driver, for more than five years.

The couple have a five-year-old son.
“They had been moving around Chennai, Bengaluru and Hosur as part of their works, before settling down in Hosur along with Natarajan’s parents,” the officer said.
Priya, the officer said, was employed with a private hospital in Hosur. “She lost her job in January. Her husband too was not doing well at work. Some 15 days ago, Priya and Natarajan had picked up a quarrel over remaining jobless and after that she had left for Chennai to live with her mother.”
However, Natarajan managed to pacify her and brought her back home on Sunday morning. But they entered into another big fight the same night. “At one stage, Natarajan slit Priya’s throat using a knife, killing her on the spot,” the officer said.

Natarajan then told his parents that he had murdered his wife and they alerted the neighbours, who called in the Veppanahalli police.
Police held inquiry with Natarajan, who confessed to the crime. They registered a case based on his confessional statement and arrested him. He was subsequently lodged in the Salem Central Prison under judicial custody in the evening.
The Veppanahalli police, meanwhile, sent the dead body to the Krishnagiri government hospital for postmortem.
