Driver injured as minitruck falls into gorge near Yercaud

Salem: The driver of a minitruck suffered head injuries when the vehicle fell into a 150-foot-deep gorge on the Yercaud Ghat Road on Saturday.

Driver M Easwaran, 34, of Kuranguchavadi was admitted to a private hospital in Salem. His condition was said to be stable.

An officer at Yercaud police station said the minitruck was carrying gravel to a construction site. “The driver lost control of the vehicle on a bend above a 60-foot bridge. The vehicle might have been overloaded, which could have affected its ability to negotiated the turn safely,” the officer said.

The Yercaud police were investigating.
