Krishnagiri: A 40-year-old man suffered multiple fractures after a herd of three elephants attacked him near Kurubarapalli in Krishnagiri district on Monday. A forest official said his health condition is stable.
The victim was identified as K Ravi, of Bayanapalli village. He is a daily wage worker.
“On Monday morning, Ravi was on his way to work from his village. He didn’t notice the elephant herd as it was concealed behind thick thorn bushes. Suddenly the elephants appeared before him and attacked him. On hearing his cry, people nearby rushed to the spot. They distracted the elephants and rescued Ravi,” the official said.
On Monday evening, the herd was camping near the district collectorate. Forest officials were monitoring its movement and were trying to chase away the elephants into the forest.
The official said the herd of elephants were the ones that entered a Sipcot estate near Kurubarapalli a few days ago. “Though the elephants were chased away on that day, it seems they have returned in search of food,” the official added.
