SALEM: Two people were killed in a
road accident in Salem
city on the early hours of Saturday. The accident took place after a truck rammed a tamarind tree, police sources said.
The deceased have been identified as P
Manikandan, 25, of Venkili near Ambur in Vellore district and
K Devarajan
, 27, of the same district. Both were truck drivers.
"On Friday night, Manikandan was heading to
Annadhanapatti
in Salem city in a truck carrying iron rods from Ranipet in Vellore district. Devarajan, another driver, accompanied him. While they were approaching Annadhanapatti on the early hours of Saturday, Manikandan lost control over the vehicle and it rammed a tamarind tree. Both of them were crushed to death," a police officer said.
Fire and
Rescue Service
personnel retrieved the bodies after three hours of struggle. The bodies were sent to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
Traffic investigation wing police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
Devarajan is survived by his wife Chitra and an one year-old child. Manikandan was a bachelor.
