Namakkal: Police seized 150 kg of gutka, which is banned in Tamil Nadu, during a vehicle check near Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district in the early hours of Wednesday. A man was arrested in connection with this.
Around 3am, the Kumarapalayam police were conducting a vehicle check in Kaveri Nagar. On seeing the police, the van driver tried to speed away. But they managed to intercept vehicle.
On searching the van, cops found white sacks filled with gutka products. The driver, identified as K Wilson, 38, of
Bhavani in Erode district, was arrested. The police seized the van and the 150 kg of gutka
An officer at the Kumarapalayam police station said Wilson had hidden the banned gutka among candy packets. Wilson, who was into candy business, purchased gutka in bulk from Karnataka to sell in Bhavani area.
Wilson was produced before a magistrate court in Kumarapalayam and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days. He was lodged in the Salem Central Prison.
