Yellow alert for thunderstorms, gusty winds in several districts for next 5 days
Ranchi: Parts of Jharkhand, including Ranchi, may get some relief in the next few days amid the prevailing heat wave conditions as the Met office on Tuesday predicted thunderstorms and gusty wind in isolated places across some districts.
The days will be hotter, but the thunderstorms in the latter part of the day could provide some respite, a Met department official said. Baburaj PP, scientist and head of the Ranchi MeT office, said that thunderstorms along with gusty wind in isolated places in the latter half of the day may give some relief to the people in the coming days but the maximum temperatures during the first half will remain as they were earlier.
This respite is expected because there is an upper air cyclonic circulation which lies over north Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level, while a north-south trough runs from east Bihar to southwest Madhya Pradesh across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh at 0.9 km above mean sea level. A trough also runs from northwest Bihar to Manipur across Gangetic West Bengal, Bangladesh and Assam at 0.9 km above mean sea level, he said.
As a result, the Met office has issued a yellow alert regarding thunderstorms and gusty wind from Tuesday till Wednesday morning in Gumla, Khunti, Simdega, West Singhbhum, and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts.
The Met office issued a similar warning from April 24 to 25 in a total of 14 districts — Godda, Sahibganj, Pakur, Dumka, Deoghar, Jamtara, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Khunti, Seraikela-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum and East Singhbhum.
The warning for April 25 to 26 has been issued for a total of 16 districts — Godda, Sahibganj, Pakur, Dumka, Deoghar, Girdih, Jamtara, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Khunti, Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Seraikela-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum and East Singhbhum.
In the past 24 hours till Monday morning, the state recorded very light to light rainfall along with thunderstorms at isolated places over the state.
The highest rainfall of 14.2 mm was recorded at Majhgaon (West Singhbhum).
The highest maximum temperature of 43.8 degrees Celsius was recorded in Daltonganj, while the lowest minimum temperature 21.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Khunti.
