Dumka: A 30-year-old worker with a grain warehouse located near Sudni More in Godda district sustained bullet injuries on the leg after unidentified criminals opened fire following ‘extortion threat’, police said on Monday.
The injured was identified as Jayram Mandal (30).
“Two assailants arrived at the warehouse on a motorcycle and opened two rounds of fire. One bullet hit a table kept inside, while the other struck the worker,” police said.
Warehouse owner Nilesh Kumar said, “I had received a threat call on March 9 for Rs 10 lakh extortion and lodged a complaint with the Meharma police.”
Probe is under way to ascertain if the incident is linked to the threat call, police added.
Mahagama sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Chandrashekhar Azad said, “Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the accused for further action. The injured is admitted at the Godda Sadar Hospital and stated to be out of danger.”
