RANCHI: Rail services on the Jasidih-Asansol main line in Jharkhand were disrupted for around two hours on Thursday morning after the Gonda-Asansol Express collided with a truck near the Nawadih railway crossing in Deoghar district, railway officials said.
Jasidih station manager Shankar Shailesh confirmed that there were no casualties or serious injuries.
Two bikers nearby sustained minor injuries when the truck was pushed into them following the impact.
According to the Asansol Railway Division, heavy traffic near the level crossing contributed to the incident. The truck was attempting to cross the tracks when the train, entering the down line in the absence of a proper signal, struck it. Videos circulating on social media show the train hitting the truck and the impact dragging the vehicle into nearby traffic.
“The damaged engine has been removed from the site, and rail traffic returned to normal after around two hours,” an Eastern Railway spokesperson said.
A four-member committee has been formed to investigate the collision and determine responsibility. Railway officials said strict action would be taken against anyone found negligent.
