GARHWA: Death of a person in a road accident resulted in a blockade around 8am on Wednesday at Pachpheri village, 8km from the district headquarters.
Irate villagers blocked Garhwa Majhiaon road at Pachpheri village for three hours demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation and a government job for the deceased's son. The blockade began at 8am and continued till 11am.
The villagers also damaged the windscreen of the bus which caused the accident.
Navrang Singh (45), a resident of Biktam village under Meral police station area of the district was crushed to death by a passenger bus (Rajdhani bus) when he was crossing the road on his bicycle. Navrang died on spot. Reckless driving caused the accident, police said.
Police also said Singh was on his way to a brick kiln for work when he was hit by the bus which was heading towards Majhiaon from Garhwa.
Garhwa SDM A Muthu Kumar, police inspector Shiv Kumar Shardul and Meral police station officer in-charge Hari Shankar Singh rushed to the spot. They pacified the agitating villagers. tnnThe blockade was lifted only after the assurance of SDM who said police will heed the villagers' demands for compensation and a government job to the deceased's son.
Police sent the body to Garhwa sadar hospital for postmortem.
