Addressing the media, Hall said, “The US consulate had organised a conclave to curb trafficking in Ranchi in 2014 and we received a huge support by the state government here. The government has played a significant role in curbing trafficking. Introduction of the Placement Agency Regulation Act last year was one of its best efforts.”

Talking about the three-day workshop which was held in the city hall from February 28 to Match 2, Hall said the programme witnessed the participation of young people from the state and was organised to raise awareness about gender-based violence. “This is the third and last workshop of the series. The previous two workshops were held in Guwahati and Kolkata,” he said.

Students from various colleges and universities, including Ranchi University, St Xavier’s College, XLRI among others participated in the event. Students also got a chance to share their ideas and experiences with students of University of Texas through video conference.

Ravi Kant, chairperson of Shakti Vahini, said, “The workshop was to train and inform college students about how to use social media and theatres to spread awareness in their campus.”

The Consul General also announced the launch of an anti-Trafficking In Persons (TIP) Caravan which will begin from Kolkata and arrive in Ranchi on April 6. This carvan will visit various districts, such as Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Khunti and
