Ranchi: Police on Tuesday arrested a person, involved in about dozens of theft across the city. A large amount of gold and silver ornaments and other valuables, worth more than Rs 10 lakh, have been recovered from him.
The police on Wednesday said the arrested person, Ravi Sharma, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district, lived at a rented home in Chutia here.
He was accused of theft about seven years ago as well.
Ranchi SSP Kishore Kaushal said acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed Sharma with a few gold ornaments and silver utensils. During interrogation, Sharma revealed that he had stolen valuables from many houses over the past three years.
“Sharma used to survey the localities during daytime and target empty houses at night. He committed all the thefts on his own. We have seized the tools that he used to break into the houses,” the SSP added.
The police said the recovered items include 50 pieces of gold ornaments, including earrings, finger rings, bangles and bracelets, 170 silver articles, including coins, statues of deities, necklace, lockets, household utensils and biscuits. Moreover, 23 mobile phones of different companies, two cameras, a television set and dozens of other materials were seized from him.
