Garhwa: Two villagers were trampled to death by elephants while gathering mahua flowers in separate incidents of Garhwa district, police said on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Munna Singh (30), a resident of Bahokudar village under Ranka police station limits, and Daib Korwa (62) of Kadwa village under Dhurki police station limits.
Garhwa (Sourth division) DFO Ebin Benny Abraham said, “Munna was trampled to death by elephants on Monday around 6 am.”
Daib was killed by the elephants on Sunday night, Garhwa (North division) DFO Anshuman said.
In both incidents, Rs 50,000 was paid to the each of the families of both the deceased and the remaining Rs 3.5 lakh compensation will be paid them soon. Vigil has been intensified in the areas and villagers urged to not venture out in the dark, DFOs said.
