Ramgarh: Two people were killed, and 30 others sustained injuries when a Ranchi bound collided with a truck on NH-23 near Chattar-Mandu area of the district on Monday morning. Among the deceased was a woman passenger of the bus while the other was the driver of the ill-fated truck, the police said.
Around 10 am, the bus, which was headed to Ranchi from Bokaro, collided head-on with a truck near Court More in Chattar-Mandu. Passengers on board the bus said its driver was driving recklessly. The incident occurred when the driver made a wrong overtake attempt. “The driver was speeding, and despite repeated requests, did not slow down,” said a passenger.
The collision’s impact left the truck driver stuck in his cabin. Ramgarh subdivisional police officer Parmeshwar Prasad said, “The bus was on way to Ranchi from Bokaro via Ramgarh when it collided with a truck which was coming from opposite direction. Two have died and majority of the passengers in bus suffered injuries of various degrees.”
The injured were taken to sadar hospital a kilometre away in ambulances. Critically injured passengers were referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi. The deceased could not be identified till the evening.
Traffic remained disrupted for several hours on NH-23 as police carried out rescue work and removed the damaged vehicles, Ramgarh subdivisional officer Anurag Kumar Tiwari said.
