RANCHI: Two persons of a family were killed and six others, including a child, were injured in separate accidents in the city on Saturday.
Police said a speeding car plunged into the Subarnarekha river from the railway overbridge in Namkum around 5am. The vehicle was returning from a wedding ceremony and was on its way to Jamshedpur from Saharsa in
Bihar.
The victims were identified as Hirakant Jha and Anurima Devi.
Additional SP Indrajeet Mahatha said the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating the curve and plunged into the river. The two died on the spot, while four others, including a five-year old child, were seriously injured and have been admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
"All the passengers were of the same family and were returning from Saharsa in Bihar to Adityapur in Jamshedpur. They had gone to take part in a wedding ceremony that was solemnized last week. After sending the newly wed couple and other members of the family by train, they were returning in the car," said the ASP.
According to sources in the RIMS, the condition of all the four injured is critical because of multiple injuries. While Manikant Jha and Mantosh Jha are admitted to the surgery ward, Maheshwar Jha and five-year-old Aayush Kumar are under treatment in the neurosurgery unit.
"Condition of the patients is very serious and it would not be possible to say anything till all the pathological reports are ready," said a doctor.
In another incident, two persons suffered injuries when the car in which they were travelling met with an accident near Vikas Vidyalaya on Ranchi-Patna highway on Saturday morning.
Police said the injuries of the two were not serious and the duo moved for their destination after first aid.
