Tragic rape of minor during fair outing; Police intensify search operations for accused
Dumka: A minor tribal girl was raped on Monday when the 15-year-old, who had gone to a fair with her aunt and her acquaintances, was returning home. On their way back from the fair, her aunt's acquaintance, Vijay Murmu, a man in early thirties, allegedly committed the crime.
The girl lodged a complaint the next day, on Tuesday, prompting police to launch a search for the accused. "The complainant was medically examined at the local hospital and attempts are on to nab the accused," the officer-in-charge told the TOI.
Quoting the complaint, police said that the girl had gone to the weekly market with her aunt and Murmu. After spending about three to four hours at the fair, they set out for home around 4 pm.
After some time, her aunt got off at a shop to have snacks and told the girl to go ahead with Murmu, and she would follow them in a toto.
The accused, a resident of Deoghar, allegedly diverted the bike midway under the pretext of dropping her home, and took her to a secluded spot. Two unidentified youths were already waiting there. Murmu allegedly held her captive for several hours and raped her multiple times. When she resisted, he threatened to kill her. However, the role of the other two men during the time when the crime was being committed is not explained in the FIR, police said.
Around 11 pm Murmu dropped her off at a junction on his motorcycle along with another accomplice. He also threatened her that if she told anyone about the rape, he would kill her and dispose of her body.
The girl then reached home late at night and informed her parents about the entire incident. On Tuesday, she went to the police station with her family and lodged a formal complaint.
