Three teenage girls were killed and two other women injured after a heap of earth fell on them while digging at Singhia village in Samastipur district. The incident occurred when the three girls with two other women of had gone to dig earth for Diwali, superintendent of police Nawal Kishore Singh said. The women, who sustained injuries, however, managed to come out of the heap of earth which fell on them while the three teenage girls were asphyxiated, he added.
Those who died in the incident have been identified as Mira Kumari (15), Puja Kumari (16) and Sunita Kumari (18), Singh said, adding the seriously injured woman, Sunita Devi (34), has been referred to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). The other woman, who sustained minor injury, was admitted to a local primary health centre, the SP added. The identity of the other woman has not been ascertained yet, he said.
Warsi's statute at Piro: CM
Nitish Kumar visited Warsi village in Tarari block of Bhojpur district on Sunday to attend the 'shraddha karma' of famous socialist leader, freedom fighter and former MLA Ram Iqbal Warsi, popularly known as 'Piro's Gandhi'. The socialist leader, who passed away on October 10, also actively took participated in the JP movement. The CM also asked the district magistrate to install a statue of the great leader at Piro. Talking to newsmen the CM said, "Warsi was a great socialist leader and was respected by everyone. During the JP movement, I also went to jail with him. Youth should follow in his footsteps ."
Sub-divisional court inaugurated: Patna high court's chief justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari inaugurated the sub-divisional court at Pupri on Saturday. A large gathering welcomed him at Pupri on his arrival by a chopper. From Pupri he went to Belsand to inaugurate the court. Justice Sudhir Singh, law department's special secretary Ujjwal Kumar Dubey, Sitamarhi district and sessions judge Sanjay Priye, DM Rajiv Raushan, SP Hari Prasath S, PP Arun Kumar Singh and senior advocates Jai Dev Jha and Vimal Kumar Shukla were prominent among others who addressed the inaugural function.
Maoist held: The Aurangabad Police on Sunday arrested a Maoist from Kosdihara village under Salliya police station of the district. Firearms were also recovered by police from the house of the arrested Maoist. Talking to newsmen SDPO (sadar)PN Sahu said acting on a secret information, a team of the same police station raided Kosdihara village and arrested the Maoist, Dowarika Yadav. The SDPO said police have also recovered a country-made pistol and two live cartridges. During interrogation, Dowarika divulged lot of information about the future plan of the Red outfit.
