Three JJMP extremists killed by Jharkhand security forces in major operation
Gumla: Three ultras of Jharkhand Jan Multi Parishad (JJMP), a banned Maoist splinter group, were gunned down by the security forces on the hilltop of Kechki - Rugritoli hamlet under the remote Bishunpur police station limits, some 58 km from the district headquarters of Gumla, on Wednesday morning.
This incident was another severe blow to the banned ultra outfit, as in July last year, three operatives of the same organisation were killed in a gun battle in Gumla.
Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta, who came down here along with IG (operation) S Michael Raj, IG and DIG (STF - Jharkhand Jaguar) Anup Birthare and Indrajit Mahtha, said, “The slain extremists were identified as Lalu Lohra, a resident of Basartoli village, Sujit Oraon of Rorad village in Lohardaga district, and Chhotu Oraon, who hailed from Hosir village of Latehar district."
"Three weapons - one AK 56 rifle, one Insas rifle, and one SLR - were recovered from close to the bodies," he said.
A joint team of Jharkhand Jaguar and Gumla police QRT carried out the operation, which was led by Gumla SDPO Suresh Prasad Yadav.
As the encounter triggered after being cordoned off by the forces, the joint forces retaliated, killing three JJMP extremists.
Elucidating the achievements of Jharkhand police against extremism, the DGP said, “In 2025, a total of 32 Naxals were killed in encounters, and no remaining extremists of Jharkhand will see the dawn of 2026."
"By the end of Dec 2025, Naxals or extremists, organised gangs, and extortionists will all be eliminated, So I suggest they come and surrender with arms as we have information about them. So they should either give in or face bullets," Gupta said.
Speaking on strategies to end Naxalism from Jharkhand, the DGP said, "First of all, we have the country's best surrender and rehabilitation policy, which is actually being implemented on the ground - not just on paper. Second is our reward policy, as Jharkhand is the first state to announce a Rs 1 crore bounty, and that amount is given to a surrendered Naxal of the same bounty."
Thirdly, regarding deployment of forces in extremist-affected areas, he said, in West Singhbhum there are more than 30 camps.
"We have forces everywhere there, and that region is almost free from extremism. The fourth part of our strategy is our excellent intelligence network, having full information on Naxals." the police officer said.
He also said there couldn't be more than 40 arms-holding Naxals in the state.
Gupta, however, asked the state police to be more people-friendly, and police establishments should be more open to all. He asked the cops to think as they put on that they are going to help a hapless, poor, and oppressed person.
