Sweets go off shelves due to LPG disruption

Ranchi: The ongoing crisis of commercial LPG cylinder supply is also taking a toll on sweetshops as many items are going off the shelves.

A popular sweet shop-cum-eatery at Lalpur Chowk (New Rajasthan Kalewalaya) has already cut down on the number of items they usually make. “Many popular items such as soan papdi, patisa, gajar ka halwa, ladoos, balu sahi, gujiya, malpua and sandesh are not being made due to the crisis,” said Binod Kumar, cashier at the shop.




Another famous shop (Uday Mistanna Bhandar) located on Lalpur Chowk too said the same. The owner, Rabishakar Guin, said that they have reduced production of dry sweets such as sandesh and barfis.

He said that he needs around five to six or at times seven cylinders to make all the sweet items. Now, he is getting only two to three cylinders per day and therefore he has reduced production, especially those which are made with ‘khowa’ as the process is a lengthy one requiring gas supply.

“I am using diesel ovens now,” Guin said.
