Students protest against closure of PG, intermediate courses in Bokaro

Bokaro: The students of Bokaro Steel City College protested the discontinuation of the post-graduate (PG) and intermediate courses and the shutting down o fthe the college's NCC office.The students staged a protest at the college’s main gate on Thursday, seeking assurances to meet their demands. Student leader Suman Kumar said there are also shortage of lecturers across various subjects, which has also resulted in irregular classes.The protest lasted for five hours, with the students demanding improvements in their exam results. The college management informed the Sector 6 police station, after which the police arrived and tried to calm the students. “This situation has not only affected students from the city but also those from rural areas who are studying at the college. The students are frustrated with the inconsistent conduct of classes and the lack of quality education,” Kumar said.Following the protest, principal D P Kunwar said, “The Binod Bihari Mahato Koyalanchal Vishwavidyalaya, Dhanbad, has discontinued PG courses in government colleges, including in ours. We were only running PG in history and mathematics which were now being discontinued. We also do not have teachers for the courses.”“Our university is all set to introduce new PG courses for the students which will be regular but there were no classes. The students have to give the examinations only,” he said. Kunwar added that they are communicating with the NCC headquarters for resumption the programme in the college which were being run from the past 20 years.
