State shivers as winter intensifies

Ranchi: Jharkhand continues to experience severe winter conditions, with temperatures varying significantly across the state. Simdega recorded a high of 26.5°C while Namkum in Ranchi registered the lowest at 5°C on Saturday, the Ranchi office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.The temperature of Ranchi district ranged between a maximum of 22°C and a minimum of 7°C.Head of IMD-Ranchi, Abhishek Anand, predicted stable weather conditions with clear skies. "While days will remain pleasant, nights will be considerably colder," he said.The upcoming week's temperature is expected to range between 21-29°C (maximum) and 7-15°C (minimum), with relief expected from January 10 as above-normal temperatures are predicted.The Ranchi municipal corporation (RMC) reached out to the vulnerable population amidst the severe cold. The initiative includes distribution of blankets among the below-poverty-line (BPL) residents and rescue operations for homeless individuals at night.RMC commissioner Sandeep Singh said, "RMC officers have been directed to provide blankets and relocate homeless individuals to nearby shelters."Citing the challenges faced by citizens, resident Priya Verma said, "The cold has been harsh, especially at night. Heaters help, but electricity bills are a concern."
