Ranchi/Jamshedpur/Gumla/Daltonganj: With reports of several students from different parts of the state stuck in Ukraine coming in, the Jharkhand government on Friday circulated a format to all deputy commissioners to seek information about people from their respective districts who are feared stranded in the war-ravaged country.
Highly placed sources in the CMO said once the reports from the DCs are collected, a consolidated list would be prepared and sent to the Centre for tracing, rescue and follow-up of those from Jharkhand stranded in Ukraine.

A large group among those stranded is students, pursuing degrees in medicine and other subjects.
Two students, Sandeep Kumar and Urmila Kumari of Lohardaga, both in 4th year semeter at the Poltava State Medical University, Raj Nandini of Latehar, a student of Vinnitsa National Pirogov Medical University, and Rashika Khemka of Jamshedpur studying in the National Medical University in Odessa are all stuck there and have approached their respective families for help to return.
Manoj Gupta, father of Rajnandini, said his daughter is in a safe enclosure with two more girls from India. He said BJP’s Chatra MP Sunil Kumar Sing has promised him help in getting his daughter back home. The MP has assured Gupta of MEA’s help in this regard.
Talking to TOI over the phone, Sandeep said they are safe and the Indian embassy in Kyiv is trying to evacuate them by taking them to neighbouring Poland, Hungary and Romania on surface transport from where they will be flown over to India.
“The embassy officials in Kyiv has given them a form through email to collect complete details of Indian students before evacuating them from their respective locations,” he said.

The embassy officials have also briefed them about dos and don’ts. “We have been asked to shift to the basement called shelter here or in metro and railway under-passes on hearing sirens,” Sandeep said, stressing that they are spending every hour in utter distress and fear.
The fourth semester medical student, Rashika Khemka, who lives alone at a rented apartment in the port city of Odessa, located on the north coast of the Black Sea, sought help from her father to return home safe from the battle zone. The girl has told her father, Sanjay Khemka, over the phone on Thursday that blasts are being felt at her place.
“I have requested the DC, Suraj Kumar, to help us in ensuring the safe return of my daughter from Ukraine,” said the concerned father, a resident of Baradwari, Sakchi, in Jamshedpur.
Meanwhile, the state government has issued helpline and Whatsapp numbers for helping Jharkhand residents stranded in Ukraine and their families here.
