RANCHI: Jharkhand received one lakh vials of Covishield on Saturday. With this, the entire stock of Covishield in the state vaccine cell now stands at two lakh.

The consignment arrived at Birsa Munda International Airport in the morning. “The district immunization cells have been intimated to pick up their respective stocks from the state vaccine cell,” Dr Rakesh Dayal, who is the nodal officer for vaccination in Jharkhand, said.

The head of the immunization cell in Ranchi, Dr Shashi Bhushan Khalko, however, said they are yet to receive the vials from the state cell. “We had run out of Covishield four days ago and are yet to receive the fresh stock,” Khalko added.

“We are in the process of allocating the vials to those districts which had reported a shortage in stock,” Dr Dayal said.

On Friday, several beneficiaries had to be turned away after a few session sites here ran out of Covishield.

A senior official from the state vaccine cell said that the shortage was reported due to a lack of co-ordination between the state and district vaccine cells and the districts not maintaining a buffer stock with them.

One Mamta Kumari, who arrived at the vaccine centre in Birsa Munda stadium on Saturday, said, “I came here with my mother, who had to take the booster dose, and I have been waiting for the past couple of hours as they have run of Covishield.”
