Spl CBI court frames charges in MDM scam

Ranchi: A special CBI court on Wednesday framed charges against Sanjay Tiwari, his employee Raju Verma, and bank officer Ajay Oraon in the Rs 100-crore midday meal (MDM) scam.The charges against Tiwari, the main accused of the scam, was framed under sections 406, 420 and 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code. Oroan, who was the branch manager of State Bank of India’s (SBI) Hatia branch at the time of the scam, has been charged under sections 409, 420 and 120 B of IPC and section 13 (1) (D) of Prevention of Corruption Act. He is out on bail. The court read out the allegations before the accused who denied the charges.Advocate Anil Kumar Singh, who represented the three accused, said, “The special PMLA court had rejected the discharge petition of Tiwari on Monday. We filed a petition before the court today for time so that the accused can move the high court against its order on the discharge petition. The court rejected the plea and framed the charges.”During the MDM scam the fund allocated to the Jharkhand Rajya Madhyan Bhojan Pradhikaran was illegally transferred to the SBI account of Bhanu Construction, which is owned by Tiwari.
