RANCHI: Acting on a proposal moved by the social welfare, women and child development minister
Annapurna Devi, speaker Shashank Shekhar Bhokta on Wednesday approved the construction of a separate lobby for women legislators in the assembly.
The minister, during the recently concluded Monsoon session, had brought the speaker's attention to women legislators, despite having a sizeable number in the assembly have no separate sitting facility and face difficulties owing to this.
Taking cognizance of the matter, Bhokta summoned assembly secretary Sushil Kumar Singh and directed him to locate a proper place for the construction of a separate lobby. Along with the secretary of the building construction department
A place on the first floor of the assembly building was identified for the purpose and instructions for its speedy completion were issued. The public relations officer of the assembly secretariat, Gulam Mohammad Sarfaraz, said at present there are two lobbies in the assembly complex both of which are used by the legislators. "The new lobby would be dedicated to the women MLAs," he said.
At present, there are eight women legislators in the 81-member House thus constituting 10% of the total strength.
