RANCHI: A board of inquiry set up by Sainik School Tilaiya has identified two students who resorted to alleged brutalities in the name of disciplining junior students.
Constituted under the registrar of the school Squadron Leader Amitabh Ranjan, the board, after a minute scrutiny of the four-minute video footage, identified the two senior students who passed Class XII examinations in March 2011.
The board interviewed the juniors who were subjected to torture and concluded that the matter was not reported to the school authorities despite the fact that there was a proper channel and procedure for reporting such incidents.
"There is an anti-ragging cell and a committee for inquiring into the act of indiscipline. The cadets are educated on legal implications and are aware of ill effects of ragging on various platforms directly by wardens, registrar and principal from time to time," said Ranjan.
"Assuring the parents whose wards are studying in the school that their children are safe, the school authorities told them that it has taken every measure to curb recurrence of such instances. Any incident of ragging or physical punishment can be reported to the three-tier counselling system in place. It constitutes the warden, headmaster and principal," Rajan said.
The school also clarified that an interim report on alleged ragging of Shankar Khalkho, who had left the school a few months back, was sent to the National Human Rights Commission and the Koderma district administration.
Taking suo motu cognizance in the ragging on the campus of Sainik School, a division bench of the Jharkhand high court issued show-cause notices to the school and state human resource development secretary on Monday seeking a reply by November 21.
