NEW DELHI: The Jharkhand Assembly on Thursday witnessed a ruckus on Thursday over the murder of a BJP leader.
BJP's Ranchi Rural district general secretary Anil Mahto 'Tiger', a former Zilla Parishad member, was fatally shot by assailants on motorcycles near Kanke Chowk in the state capital on Wednesday.
The House proceedings were adjourned by Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato until 12.55 pm after members from both opposition and treasury benches entered the Well within two minutes of commencement.
Upon assembly for daily business, BJP members highlighted their party leader's murder, pointing to deteriorating law enforcement in the state.
Ranchi's BJP MLA C P Singh called upon the Speaker to "stop patronising murderous government".
The state Tourism Minister Sudivya Kumar responded by accusing BJP of undermining law enforcement in the state.
"Criminal incidents are unfortunate... but why has Hazaribag become the epicenter today for such activities... provocation is being made to disturb the law and order."
"The BJP is engaged in subverting the law and order in Jharkhand. An attempt is being made to pit residents against one another and put the state government in the dock," he stated.
Authorities have registered an FIR against 10 named and 200 unnamed persons following a communal clash and stone-pelting in Hazaribag, triggered by an objectionable song during a procession.
Despite the Speaker's repeated requests for order, members from both sides entered the Well, exchanging slogans, leading to adjournment until 12.55 pm.
Previously, BJP members demonstrated outside the assembly, demanding capital punishment for Anil Mahto 'Tiger's killers.
BJP, AJSU Party and other organisation supporters initiated a nine-hour bandh in Ranchi on Thursday from 8 am to 5 pm protesting the killing.
