Ranchi: Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has placed orders for two heavy supersucker machines for effective cleaning of drains and sewers.
“Each of the machines would cost Rs 2 crore and will take over a month to arrive. We will take another 10 days to train our staff,” RMC city manager Rajnish Kumar told TOI.
“The machines will be responsible for pumping out the waste from drains and sewages,” assistant municipal commissioner Kunwar Singh Pahan said. “The suction pipes in the machines can go as far as 200-250 feet and will be able to clean not just big drains but also small ones. This might resolve the problem of removing piled-up garbage on the roadside during the rains,” he added.
Since the machines will take at least two months to arrive, residents have raised concern about another piece of incomplete work by RMC in Ranchi. The monsoon is already hindering disposal of waste in the city. Moreover, the cleaning which was initially set to be complete by June 10, is still impending in July.
