Ranchi: Ranchi Municipal Corporation and traffic police will launch an anti-encroachment drive on Monday to remove street vendors along Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road.

Traffic SP Manoj Ratan said, "The drive will begin at 9 am and will cover the stretch from Ranchi University to the overbridge." Recently, Jharkhand high court issued an order to keep the main road encroachment-free within a three-week deadline. Municipal commissioner Prashant Kumar said, "At least 1,000 vendors will be rehabilitated in a space south of Jaipal Singh Stadium."

Anita Das, general secretary of Ranchi Footpath Dukandar Sangh said, "During a previous eviction drive, the vendors were given space at Jaipal Singh Stadium. But, the shop owners of Upper Bazaar put up their stalls instead. We will take the issue to court."
