RMC, police join hands to tackle traffic

Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with traffic police, has embarked on a joint initiative to tackle the perennial problem of traffic congestion caused by the ongoing construction of three flyovers in the city. The move seeks to improve traffic flow, minimise commuting delays and enhance overall road safety through an anti-encroachment campaign.Under the drive, the enforcement team is actively identifying and addressing encroachments and ensuring stringent measures against violators. The drive aims to enhance the city’s aesthetics, promote safety and facilitate smooth pedestrian and vehicular movement.Traffic SP Kumar Gaurav said, “Under this initiative, the corporation will focus on optimising road infrastructure, implementing smart traffic management systems, and enhancing public transportation facilities. Simultaneously, traffic police will intensify their efforts to enforce traffic rules, streamline intersections and ensure smoother vehicular movement.”The joint action plan includes the deployment of advanced traffic monitoring tech, increased public awareness campaigns and strategic urban planning to alleviate congestion hotspots.The RMC has collected fines of around Rs 70,000 from seven persons in 2017, Rs 2 lakh from 20 people in 2018, Rs 1.3 lakh from 13 people in 2019, Rs 20,000 in 2020 from two persons, Rs 30,000 in 2021 from three persons and Rs 1.4 lakh from 14 people in 2022.An RMC official said, “By combining our resources and expertise, we aim to create a more efficient and organised traffic system. Residents are encouraged to actively participate by adhering to traffic regulations and cooperating with the authorities during the implementation phase.” Ranjit Yadav, of Doranda, said, “The city’s commitment to maintaining an accessible urban environment is evident in the proactive anti-encroachment drive.”
