Ranchi Ward 41 Election: Residents Demand Basic Civic Amenities Ahead of Polls

Ranchi: The residents of Ward 41 of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) are taking the poll premises being made by ward councillor and mayoral candidates with a pinch of salt this year.

For years now, the residents of this ward, which covers entire HEC area, including HEC Colony, HEC Township and HEC Sector 2, have been living without basic civic infrastructures. Ahead of the Feb 23 election, residents flagged the shortage of parks and open spaces for children and the elderly.


Ramji Prasad, a ward councillor candidate for the upcoming election, said, “Although the ward has a few playgrounds, the area lacks parks where elderly people can go for morning and evening walks. Also, lanes are in urgent need of repairs.”

Residents are also grappling with erratic water supplies. Many households are depending on stored water whenever it was available. Apart from this, choked drains across several localities worsened the situation, leading to a foul odour and an increased risk of vector-borne diseases, especially during the rainy season.

Shiv Kumar, a resident of the area, said that despite the municipal corporation laying water pipelines around two years ago across various localities in the ward, water is yet to reach the households. “HEC supplies water to households once a day, which is not sufficient for families. Due to that, many families rely on deep well boring, depleting the groundwater level in the area. New families are not getting water even after deep boring,” Kumar said.
