Ranchi Schools Closed: KG to Class 6 Holiday Extended Till Jan 14 Due to Cold Wave
Ranchi: Schools in Ranchi will continue to remain closed for students from KG to Class 6 till Jan 14 as the district administration on Sunday once again decided to extend the shutdown in the wake of ongoing cold wave conditions. Since Jan 5, various administrations have declared holiday in schools till Class 12 in a phased manner.
Ahead of schools reopening on Monday, deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri directed further closure but only till Class 6 now.
“Based on the bulletin from IMD Ranchi, the district is likely to experience severe cold conditions for the next few days. Ranchi district has been marked in the yellow zone category. Keeping in mind the health and safety of students, under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, classes from KG to 6 will remain suspended from Jan 12 to Jan 14," read the order from the administration.
It added, “Classes for students from Class 7 to Class 12 will be conducted from 10 am onwards. All private schools are directed to strictly comply with the above order. If any school has examinations scheduled during the said period, they may conduct the examinations at their discretion.”
Meanwhile, IMD on Sunday issued a yellow alert for cold wave conditions in few districts from Jan 13 to 16.
According to the bulletin, yellow alert is for districts such as Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Lohardaga and Gumla. In Hazaribag, the alert was sounded for the period Jan 14 to 16.
Gumla witnessed lowest temperature in the state at 2.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Palmau (Daltonganj) at 4.9 degrees Celsius and Khunti at 5.6 degrees Celsius.
“North-westerly winds continue to prevail over Jharkhand leading to cold wave conditions in several districts,” said Abhishek Anand, senior scientist at IMD, Ranchi.
“Based on the bulletin from IMD Ranchi, the district is likely to experience severe cold conditions for the next few days. Ranchi district has been marked in the yellow zone category.
