Civil surgeon Dr Prabhat Kumar said, "To accommodate the increased demand for surgical procedures, the hospital is enhancing its infrastructure by increasing the number of operational modular theatres from three to five. These advancements would alleviate the burden on the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) and provide patients with improved healthcare options."
The cost of surgeries for head and spine injuries in private facilities range from Rs 2 to 10 lakh.
The hospital is in the process of appointing five neurosurgeons using Ayushman funds. Once operational, the neurosurgery department will enable the hospital to perform brain-related surgeries.
The number of functional OTs is being increased from three to five.
At present, Sadar operates 22 depts, including medicine, surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatrics, eye, and ENT.
With the addition of the neurosurgery department, the hospital will also see the opening of outpatient departments (OPDs) for neurology, cardiology, and pulmonology, diversifying its medical services.
Additionally, the hospital will enhance its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services, with a 40-bed critical care unit, which is under construction.
It would become the first hospital without a medical college in the state to have a neuro-surgery department by April. The process to recruit three neurosurgeons for the department is in its final stages, the deputy superintendent said
