Ranchi Railway Station Redevelopment: South Side to Open by July with World-Class Facilities
Ranchi: The redevelopment project on the south side of Ranchi railway station is expected to be completed in three months become operational by July, officials said.
The foundation stone of the Rs 447-crore redevelopment project, laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Deoghar in July 2022, missed its March deadline.
“The redeveloped station will offer world-class facilities to passengers. Some floor tiles are pending. Also, a shed is being constructed to complete the flooring, before monsoon,” divisional railway manager Karuna Nidhi Singh said.
The station will have two three-storey buildings on its north and south side, which will be connected by an overbridge to ease movement of passengers.
The new building will feature separate entry and exit gates for passengers, along with a 14,000 sq mt parking area. It will also feature food courts, restaurants, well-equipped lounge areas.
“There will be 10 new lifts and 17 escalators to ease the movement of divyang passengers, mechanised parcel handling system and an elevated concourse for cafeterias, restaurants, rest rooms and other amenities.
“The railway station was selected from among 22 stations across the country by the Railway Board in 2017 for being converted into world-class stations,” DRM said.
Work of the north side will start after that on the south side ends.
