Ranchi: Concerned over the surge in vector-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya, Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth on Monday met the administrator of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), Ameet Kumar, and urged him to speed up cleanliness and other activities to contain the spread of the disease.
Expressing unhappiness at the slow pace of activities like fogging and spraying of anti-larvae repellents in public places, Seth advised the RMC to focus on bettering its efficiency in keeping the city clean, rather than passing the buck on to the public by imposing fines on them for “violation of civic rules”.
“I have pointed out the gaps in cleanliness. Piles of garbage remain unattended for days but the RMC talks about penalising the public. If the RMC gets its act together, most of the problems will be solved,” he stated.
Seth drew Kumar’s attention to potholes where flyovers are being constructed, leading to water logging. “They are perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes. I have asked the RMC to spray bleaching power and do fogging. Regular cleaning of public toilets are also needed,” he said.
