Ranchi Fuel Crisis Hits Businesses, Supply Chains, and Daily Services
Ranchi: The impact of the ongoing fuel crisis has begun affecting commercial activities and essential doorstep services across the capital, with industrial production, supply chains, and daily deliveries bearing the brunt of the shortage.
Calling the situation alarming, Aditya Malhotra, president of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI), said local entrepreneurs have already raised their grievances as the shortage continues to deepen across sectors.
"Numerous business owners have approached us highlighting severe operational bottlenecks due to the diesel crunch. In several manufacturing sectors, heavy machinery is entirely diesel-reliant, and operations have begun grinding to a halt. Furthermore, factories depend on diesel-powered backup generators during power outages, a safety net that has now been completely disrupted," he said.
Malhotra said the crisis is affecting supply chain. "Beyond production, the entire supply chain is severely hit as businesses are unable to transport goods. If manufacturing remains affected, it will directly impact labour employment. This crisis demands immediate resolution, and there is an urgent need for a regional-level fuel storage policy to insulate the state from such shocks in the future," he said.
The fuel crisis has also begun disrupting the distribution of daily essentials as milkmen and other delivery executives are struggling to keep their vehicles running. Manoj Linda, a local milkman said, "I had to deliver milk on a bicycle today because my motorcycle ran out of petrol. If I fail to procure fuel by tomorrow, I will have to drastically shrink my delivery radius as covering long distances on a cycle is impossible."
