Ranchi: Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto on Sunday said that middlemen were taking advantage of agricultural production, adding that farmers should be provided with a profitable market so that they remain interested in their work.
While speaking at the Agro-tech Kisan Mela at Birsa Agriculture University, he stated that wasteful expenditure should be avoided in agriculture, adding that a number of big agricultural projects were either incomplete even after years or failed. He also emphasised the de-siltation of dams and rainwater conservation.
BAU vice chancellor S C Dubey welcomed the guests. Dean, animal husbandry, M K Gupta said that climate change was having an impact on animals, as they were affected by various diseases.
During a discussion with women farmers, Rajya Sabha member Mahua Majhi said that the state was earlier known for women trafficking and witch-hunting, adding that under the Hemant Soren-led govt, it was now recognised for women’s self-dependence and empowerment.
National Scheduled Tribe Commission member Asha Lakra said that any woman who faced discrimination or misbehaviour in the name of ST should lodge a complaint with her organisation.
